IRS Allows Deductions

WASHINGTON, DC — Health club members can now deduct some health club program expenses from their taxes as long as the expenses are not affiliated with membership dues, which still cannot be deducted, according to a new IRS policy.

Members can deduct for programs that treat specific diseases, such as hypertension and heart disease, as long as they have been diagnosed by a doctor. This means that disease-specific programs offered by fitness facilities may be deducted.
