SMU Bans Suspect after Alleged Sexual Assault in Campus Rec Center

Southern Methodist University (SMU), Dallas, has banned a suspect from campus after an alleged sexual assault was reported in the men's locker room of the Dedham Center for Lifetime Sports, SMU's student recreation center.

According to The Dallas Morning News, an SMU student told police that he was sexually assaulted by another student on April 25. He reported the alleged assault two days later.

A university official told the newspaper that the case has been referred to the Dallas County district attorney's office.

University spokesman Kent Best said campus police identified the suspect and interviewed him. They temporarily suspended him and issued a criminal trespass warning. SMU police will work with the Dallas County district attorney’s office to determine the next steps, Best said.

Dallas TV station WFAA reported the assault occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 25 and that the suspect was 32 years old. As of the April 30 TV report, SMU police was still investigating the incident and receiving tips as to the suspect's whereabouts.
