HANOVER, NH -- Dartmouth College has received $9 million to support its recently renovated fitness center, according to the college’s website. The gift came from an anonymous donor.
In 2006, Dartmouth took on debt to update the fitness center, which is the largest contiguous fitness facility in the Ivy League. The anonymous donation will be used toward repaying that debt and also will go into a fund to be used to ensure the facility’s exercise equipment stays current and operational.
In honor of the financial commitment, the college will name the fitness center after one of its alumni, the late Charles J. Zimmerman. A 1923 college graduate and member of Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business class of 1924, Zimmerman served as a president, director and chairman of Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. He was also a Dartmouth College trustee for 20 years.
Dartmouth has already named a residence hall and reception room after Zimmerman.
