ROLLA, MO -- As part of Homecoming weekend activities, a dedication ceremony is planned Oct. 24 for the newly renovated fitness center at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, MO.
The dedication marks the completion of Phase I of the $7.4 million renovation to the 35,000-square-foot fitness facility.
The updated facility includes new cardio and weight equipment, a designated varsity weight room and a fitness room for intercollegiate athletes, plus air conditioning for each area.
“This state-of-the-art fitness facility will enhance the educational experience of our students by providing them a place to exercise and improve their bodies as well as their minds,” Chancellor John F. Carney III, said in a statement. “We appreciate the support of our donors for their continuing commitment to our institution, our students and the future business leaders of our state.”
The project was funded through student fees, as well as a $1 million gift from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, a $250,000 donation from Roger and Sandy Dorf, and other private donations.
This renovation is the first in a series of renovations planned for Missouri S&T's Student Recreation Center. An additional $3.5 million is needed to complete the project, school officials said.
The final project includes improvements to several other areas of the facility, including the indoor walking track and courts for basketball, racquetball, squash, tennis and volleyball.
