WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Education will be not accept any new Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) applications this year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

“Because many applications submitted and reviewed as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2006 competition for new awards under the Carol M. White Physical Education Program received high scores but were not able to be funded in FY 2006, we have decided to use that existing slate to make new awards in FY 2007 for this program,” according to the department’s Web site. “This means that no new applications for this program will be solicited in FY 2007. Local educational agencies and community-based organizations that submitted applications for the 2006 competition may not revise their applications. The FY 2007 slate will be developed based on the scores assigned by peer reviewers during the FY 2006 competition.”

The U.S. Department of Education plans to announce the 2007 grant awards in late spring or early summer.

Because Congress has not finished action on the 2007 appropriation for the program, the department couldn’t estimate the number of awards expected to be given this year, according to the Web site.
