BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University plans to have its new $11 million recreation and fitness center open for business when students return to campus next month, according to a local media report.
The 38,100-square-foot facility was originally projected to open Jan. 5, but it is still awaiting inspector approval. The new center includes a 6,600-square-foot fitness center, two fitness studios for aerobics, yoga, Pilates and spinning, as well as a multipurpose gymnasium for group sports. The fitness center will include 40 pieces of cardio equipment, two circuit training units, a free weight area and a stretching area.
The center will be free for students, while employees can pay for annual memberships. Borelli + Partners Inc. of Miami, FL, is the architect on the project.
