On Monday, LA Fitness, Irvine, CA, announced an agreement to acquire the remaining Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs in the St. Petersburg, FL-based company. Currently, Lifestyle Family Fitness has 33 clubs, all in Florida. The price of the sale cannot be disclosed due to a confidentiality agreement.
Lifestyle will close its 31,000-square-foot Vanderbilt location in Naples, FL. Members of that club will be relocated to the 50,000-square-foot LA Fitness Vanderbilt Beach Road club about 5 minutes away at no additional charge to the members. The LA Fitness club includes additional amenities, such as a pool and a basketball court.
Other Lifestyle clubs may be relocated or closed, but some of them could be expanded or remodeled, says Jill Greuling, executive vice president of operations at LA Fitness. Those plans will be reviewed at a later date.
All multi-club Lifestyle Family Fitness memberships will be honored at their current rate, Greuling says, and multi-club members will have access to all Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs. All single-club members will be honored at their current rate with the same access they now have to the Lifestyle Family Fitness club where they joined, Greuling adds.
LA Fitness is meeting with Lifestyle Family Fitness management this week to discuss employment opportunities.
“We need the Lifestyle Family Fitness employees to continue operating our business,” Greuling tells Club Industry.
The two companies began serious talks regarding the sale about 60 days ago, according to Greuling, who adds that the company is hopeful to complete the sale within the next several weeks.
LA Fitness currently operates 63 clubs in Florida, including nine in the Tampa-St. Petersburg metro area. LA Fitness also has 22 greenfield clubs under development in Florida. The company listed 505 clubs open nationwide and in Canada as of Jan. 1, 2012.
