Clubs for the Quest, led by Pat Laus, founder of The Atlantic Club, Manasquan, NJ, raised more than $1 million in 2012, the first time the program surpassed the mark since it began five years ago. Clubs for the Quest has raised more than $3.3 million since its inception.
Program participants in Clubs for the Quest in 2012 were Zumba Fitness, Bally Total Fitness, The Atlantic Club, Ab Coaster, Life Fitness, Athletic Business, Crunch Fitness, LA Fitness, Millennium Partners Sports Club Management, Life Time Fitness, XSport Fitness and Spectrum Fitness. Also, Curves founders Gary and Diane Heavin were recognized for their contributions.
"I am so grateful to my friends in the fitness industry for embracing this program and involving their members in this important cause," Nieto, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2005, said in a statement. "Pat Laus' tireless efforts and vision for this program have helped us evolve and significantly grow our fundraising over the past four years. Raising more than $1 million in 2012 is a huge accomplishment that will allow us to continue funding ALS research that will lead to effective treatments."
Clubs for the Quest will be recognized at the annual Bash for Augie's Quest at the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) show on March 21 in Las Vegas. Augie's Quest has raised more than $34.6 million since 2006.
