Tony Wells, the chief marketing officer at 24 Hour Fitness, San Ramon, CA, announced last week that he is leaving the company.

Wells has accepted a position as the chief marketing and customer officer of The ADT Corp., a division of Tyco International Ltd, which announced Wells’ hiring last Friday. He will begin his new role on May 21.

Wells was hired in 2007 by 24 Hour CEO Carl Liebert, a teammate of his on the U.S. Naval Academy basketball team in the 1980s. Wells came to 24 Hour from Visa USA Inc., where he was vice president of partnership marketing.

“It’s been an amazing five years of growth, learning and unbelievable experiences,” Wells wrote in an email to colleagues at 24 Hour. “I’ve been able to play a small part in growing this great brand, accomplishing some major achievements and maximizing our shareholder’s value. I would like to thank Carl, who’s been a great boss, coach, mentor and friend.”

Wells also wrote that Bill Quinn will serve as the interim CMO at 24 Hour.

ADT, a provider of electronic security, interactive automation and related monitoring services for residences and small businesses in North America, will become an independent company later this year after separating from Tyco, which is based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
