The Eclipse Advantage

Pound for pound, the new Eclipse pro-style dumbbells from Hampton Fitness are the most modern free weights available, combining form, function and style. The result: a high performance product that says your gym is serious about weight training and modernization.

Designed in America by mechanical engineers and fitness experts, the current model incorporates Hampton's new ergonomic rubber handle the SNUG-GRIP

This contoured handle supports the hands natural arch, creating a comfortable solid grip. The outside shoulders of each handle have been expanded to 50 mm which actually centers the hand and prohibits the painful sliding impact caused by old style handles during workouts. Since you do not need to grip the weight so tightly, you can focus your attention more on the muscle you are targeting.

Hampton's custom Dura-Lock end cap, which secures the plates in place, has been restyled as well, and flush-mounted for longer life and comfort. Sometimes it's the little things that can really make a big difference in improving product quality and minimizing maintenance. The Dura-Loc is secured to the handle with a heat-treated, Hex-head bolt at 110 foot-pounds of torque reducing the need to tighten loose plates. No more of those Allen bolts that can become loose and stripped over time.

The Eclipse actually holds two types of finely tooled plates. The first is a chrome plate with a protective rubber rim. Should it ever wear, the rubber edge is easily replaced, so you don't have to purchase a whole new plate, just snap it in place. The rimmed plate protects the slightly smaller internal chrome plate that provides extra stability and the Eclipse's sleek uniform look.

Eclipse dumbbells are available in Club Packs, packaged in popular standard sets, and here's a change, the racks are included. No more mismatched equipment and unstable displays. Options include: 5 to 50-lb., 55 to 100-lb., 105 to 130 lb., and a 15 to 40 lb. set to double up on frequently used sizes.

American-made Hard Chrome Olympic Bars Offer Unparalleled Durability and Reliability

For many fitness facilities the choice for Olympic bars tends to be an afterthought, often not even considered until the plates and dumbbell have been selected. But why should this particular piece of equipment, used day in and day out by almost every member who visits the weight room, be relegated to accessory status? Olympic bars undergo as much use and abuse as any other piece of free weight equipment, if not more. And like any equipment with moving parts, bars should be guaranteed for performance and endurance to ensure the safest environment for members and the least stress on your maintenance crew.

In order to meet the demands for durability and wear-resistance, Iron Grip's heavy-duty Hard Chrome Olympic bar line has been designed with careful attention to materials and construction. The American-made Hard Chrome plating on Iron Grip bars is rated aircraft-quality and is manufactured to military specifications for durability. Its resistance to flaking, peeling, and chipping decreases the need for maintenance and replacement.

Manufactured exclusively in the United States from heat-treated, turned, ground and polished steel, all Iron Grip bars are made with durable, product-specific Nylotron bushings that ensure free and continuous rotation through years of heavy use. The bars' steel sleeves are precision-machined to prevent plates from sliding too freely, and they are secured to the shaft by shoulder bolts with nylon-impregnated threads coated with a proprietary locking compound. This method of securing the sleeves prevents the bolts from loosening prematurely and cuts down on unnecessary maintenance.

All Iron Grip bars also feature integrated collars that are welded by hand — never machine press-fit — to the bar. Welding collars to the bar is a simple, yet critical part of the bar's construction because most bar failure is a result of a break between a press-fit collar and shaft due to the repeated impact of plates loaded onto the bar.

Available in standard 7' and 5' lengths, as well as an oversized 52" EZ curl bar, all Iron Grip bars have been precision designed, down to the last detail, including their patented six-sided collar that prevents an unloaded bar from rolling.

The Evolution of a Better Idea: A Blast of Colors in the Weight Room

Ivanko's new colored E-Z Life line is build around the popular seven-hole grip design, which is said to be the most beautiful Olympic plate design Ivanko has ever manufactured. Having selected the design, Ivanko elected to rubber coat the plates because rubber is easier on club equipment, and in our experience, nothing protects like rubber. Although there have been colored plates in Europe in the past, none have combined E-Z Lift's good looks with colors this brilliant and crisp.

Clubs in the U.S. are no different from European clubs in one important respect: All clubs know they need to keep the overall environment and the workout experience fresh and exciting. This is important in recruiting new members and keeping existing ones from dropping out of being lured away by flashier clubs. This is why clubs make ongoing investment in new equipment and surrounding. With Ivanko's new plates, for about the cost of a couple of new cardio machines, a club can bring a blast of vibrant color to their entire weight area, generating visual excitement and fresh feel to the surroundings. Now when members enter the weight room, they don't have to leave their love of aesthetics behind.

Ivanko barbell Co. was founded in 1967 by Tom Lincir, President, and it's the leading provider of professional and commercial grade barbell and dumbbell products worldwide. COMPANY BACKGROUND:

Jacobs Ladder Inc. manufactures a patented climbing machine with ladder-type rungs on non-motorized continuous treadmill. The device was developed by President Steve Nichols as an alternative to running. “I needed another way to keep fit,” Nichols explains. “I tried step climbers and treadmills, but I wanted something that would take the stress off my back and work the upper body.” The result was the creation of Jacobs Ladder, a unique way to provide a high-intensity cardiovascular workout.

Jacobs Ladder Offers Maximum Conditioning, User Benefits

Jacobs Ladder is a patented climbing machine that takes clients beyond conventionaltreadmill, bicycle and stepper exercise, to a new level of aerobic conditioning.

Jacobs Ladder is a patented climbing machine with ladder-type rungs on a 40-degree angled, non-motorized continuous treadmill. To use the machine, exercisers simply snap on the control belt and start climbing. The higher the exerciser reaches, the faster the ladder moves, and the more intense the workout becomes. To work at a more comfortable pace, the climber simply slows down. A braking device ensures that the Ladder stops when the exerciser reaches the lower rungs or stops climbing altogether. The machine also offers digital feedback on how many feet were climbed, rate of speed, heart rate and how many calories were used in the process.

But for all its simplicity, Jacobs Ladder offers its users some serious benefits. Study after study confirms that exercises using both the arms and legs require more energy expenditure, and thus, burn more calories, than exercises using just the arms or the legs. So unlike stairclimbers, stationery bikes, and other standard club equipment, Jacobs Ladder can offer exercisers a superb cardiovascular workout in a relatively short amount of time.

Even while it provides one hard workout, Jacobs Ladder is easy on the joints. Because it places little stress on the back and eliminates the pounding that occurs in many forms of exercise, Jacobs Ladder is an excellent device for cross-training or for use in many physical rehabilitation programs.

It provides complete, low-impact aerobic exercise, allowing for total body involvement. Jacobs Ladder provides fitness professionals a reasonable cost relative to traditional aerobic equipment. It offers a unique exercise alternative that provides a competitive advantage in satisfying clients.

    Life Fitness Launches Independent Stairclimbers

Life Fitness recently introduced a new line of independent stairclimbers that feature optimal biomechanics and cutting-edge technology. Based on university research, the patented IsoTrack mono-roller belt-driven pedal system is banked at the optimal angle to simulate real stairclimbing. The belt-drive system, which makes the unit virtually maintenance-free, provides a smooth ride and is reliable and quiet.

The stairclimbers have minimal space between the oversized pedals to reduce lateral shifting of the hips that may cause lower back pain. A 13.5-inch step range accommodates exercisers of various heights. Ergonomically positioned bullhorn ErgoGrip handlebars encourage proper posture, and the side handrails ensure safety and balance.

The universal console boasts an integrated reading ledge and lower console display area so users can simultaneously read, see their workout profiles and make necessary changes to time and intensity. A dual-pocket accessory tray stores water bottles and personal stereos.

With 20 levels of resistance and the ability to climb from two to 13 floors per minute, the stairclimbers are ideal for all fitness levels. The stairclimbers feature five interactive heart rate Zone Training+ workouts, seven preset interval choices under Hill Plus, and the Personal Trainer option that enables storage of up to six customizable sessions. Other standard workouts are the Calorie Goal, Distance Goal, and Time in Zone Goal, Watts, METs and the classic Hill, Random and Manual.

The cordless stairclimbers can be placed anywhere in a facility to maximize floor space.

Life Fitness also offers a broad selection of strength training lines for beginners to elite athletes. The comprehensive offering includes the selectorized Life Fitness Pro Series Strength and Club Series Strength and Hammer Strength's plate-loaded machines, Motion Technology Selectorized (MTS) line and benches and racks.

Life Fitness' Extensive Strength Offering Ideal for All Exercisers

Life Fitness offers a broad selection of strength training lines to meet the needs of all exercisers - from beginners to elite athletes. A direct result of the company's philosophy that variety and progression create results and enhance motivation, the comprehensive offering includes the selectorized Life Fitness Pro Series Strength and Club Series Strength and Hammer Strength's plate-loaded machines, Motion Technology Selectorized (MTS) line and benches and racks.

Selectorized lines with broad appeal such as the Life Fitness Pro Series and Club Series are ideal for beginners. The isolated fixed path of movement on these machines helps ensure proper form. Each line consists of intuitive exercises that are unparalleled in their ease of use with user-accessible weight stacks, easy-to-adjust seats and pads and minimal starting resistance levels.

As exercisers gain experience, they easily can advance to Hammer Strength's plate-loaded and MTS lines, which offer different movements and ways to challenge muscles. The Iso-Lateral technology allows users to exercise limbs together, one at a time or alternating in biomechanically correct, natural converging or diverging movements. Using these machines helps improves balance, coordination and core strength.

Finally, seasoned exercisers and athletes benefit from functional workouts using Hammer Strength's Ground Base plate-loaded pieces, Life Fitness Pro Series pulley systems (Dual Adjustable Pulley, Dual Pulley Row, Dual Pulley Pulldown and Cable Column) and Hammer Strength free weight benches and racks. All are ideal for anyone seeking to enhance their functionality, whether that means in activities of daily living or specific sport performance.

The Ground Base machines require exercisers to train with their feet on the ground, encouraging total-body stabilization and better balance that spurs strengthening of corresponding muscle groups. With Life Fitness' versatile Pro Series pulley systems, user-defined paths of movement engage additional muscles and stimulate more functional strength training. Hammer Strength's sturdy benches and racks allow performance of a virtually unlimited number of free weight exercises.

When the human body exerts force through multiple planes, contrasting torque patterns are inherent. Magnum has created the least obstructive and safest pathway to generate torque from point “A” to point “B,” whether starting or finishing at the median plane, while passing through the sagittal and frontal planes. Less sophisticated designs force wrist, elbow and shoulder joints into unnatural circular paths, away from the body's core.

The Biangular mechanism guides the human body through motion that comes naturally, rather than forcing the user to define their own path of motion. Magnum accomplishes this with multiple, ergonomically designed handles and Biangular technology based on the origins and insertions of muscles. Anyone can tap the potential of this advanced technology. There is no learning curve. With nothing more than a seat adjustment (in most cases) Magnum Biangular will deliver perfect form for every repetition for any user.

    Breaker Benches

    Magnum Revolutionizes Olympic Benches

Every facility is looking for new products that will motivate members, improve their workouts and make training safe.

Free weight training has been on the rise for the past few years. Most manufactures now offer complete lines of sophisticated plate load machines to help members make the transition from the circuit area to the free weight area. But little or nothing has been done to the main staple of every free weight area — Olympic benches. Magnum's patent pending Breaker Benches are about to change the free weight area — forever.

In the mid-eighties most manufactures started to angle the uprights or racks on Olympic units, back away from the lifter, rather than making them at a 90-degree angle to the floor. This design took the uprights out of the users lifting path, making lifts safer by eliminating the chance of the lifter hitting them during their exercise. Unfortunately, this design puts undue stress on the lifters shoulders (a very common injury area) when breaking the bar from the bench. The only safe way to prevent this stress is to have a spotter help break the bar for the lifter.

Magnum Breaker Benches eliminate the need for a spotter to help break the bar. They also eliminate any undue stress to the lifter's shoulders, allowing them to break the bar effortlessly. Breaker Benches are truly the greatest advancement ever made in Olympic benches.

Novice lifters to heavy trainers will appreciate the ease and safety of Breaker Benches. Facility owners and managers will love the simplicity of Magnum Breaker Benches.

Breaker Benches look like any other Olympic bench with uprights angled back. The difference is they are hinged on pillow block bearings. The lifter gets into a normal lifting position reaches up and grips the bar. At this point the lifter CAN break the bar as they always have or they can have the Breaker Bench ASSIST them by slowly pulling the bar forward rather than lifting it off the uprights. The bar will move into their position of power, eliminating the external rotation of their shoulders. Now they can lift the bar STRAIGHT up. The uprights fall back into their normal position, out of the lifter's path. After completing their exercise set, the bar is re-racked as usual.
