WASHINGTON, DC -- The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recall of peanut butter products tainted with Salmonella Typhimurium now includes several brands of granola and energy bars that may be sold in fitness clubs. Some of the companies affected by the recall are NutriSystem, Nature’s Path, ZonePerfect, Clif and Luna bars. The FDA developed a searchable database of recalled products, and posts an updated list of the manufacturers affected.

On Jan. 10, the FDA announced a recall of peanut butter by King Nut Companies, a distributor of peanut butter manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). The FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and their state partners said on Monday that they traced the source of the outbreak to PCA product samples originating from its Blakely, GA, processing plant. PCA manufactures peanut butter and peanut paste distributed to food manufacturers for use in snack bars, cakes, cookies, crackers, candies, cereal and ice cream.

The FDA stressed that major national brands of jarred peanut butter are not affected by the recall. It also urged retailers to immediately stop selling recalled products.
