Modern recreation centers continue to be a draw for today’s students, who, despite the recent recession, continue to vote for small fee increases to fund new or improved facilities. In order to offer top-notch programming without adding to students’ bottom line, many rec departments have sought external sources of revenue by offering memberships, guided outdoor adventures, equipment rental and facility rentals to the greater community. Long a source of revenue for university athletic programs, corporate sponsorships are becoming more common as contributors to recreation departments’ budgets, too.
