Looking to beat your best time—or just take that initial step toward your New Year’s goal of competing in your first serious race? Bay area triathletes know the team of fitness, nutrition, and sports medicine professionals at BreakAway Performance as San Francisco’s one-stop shop for intensive multisport training. Now, having just been acquired by The Bay Club Company (formerly Western Athletic Clubs), BreakAway’s expertise will reach even more experienced and aspiring racers.
BreakAway’s performance-based model will combine with the Bay Club’s premier locations and country-club amenities (think: spa, childcare, conference facilities, wine club) with the design of a new dedicated Pro Lab and Performance Cycling Studio. Now open at the Bay Club San Francisco, it’s furnished with state of the art diagnostics equipment for V02max, video analysis and a 3D image capturing bike fitting station. Featuring a full service bike shop with an onsite bike technician for bespoke custom bike builds, the facility also boasts a high tech Performance Cycling Studio featuring Computrainer™ power based training. The result: highly specialized swimming, cycling and running diagnostics and training in a luxury setting, seamlessly integrated with the rest of your work, life and recreational pursuits. Says Bay Club vice president and club manager Jennifer Beaton, “Training of this caliber can be difficult to acquire. By building our own Pro Lab and adding BreakAway’s expertise and training protocols, we’re able to make this type of service much more accessible, affordable, and convenient.”
At the new facility, BreakAway director Joel Ramirez continues to offer clients coaching and strategies for starting out in the sport of triathlon or taking their swimming, biking or running performance to the next level. “I am thrilled with this opportunity for BreakAway to grow via the Bay Club’s platform of urban lifestyle resorts and first-class fitness offerings,” he says. Ramirez is a USA Triathlon Certified Coach with additional certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. He brings to the Bay Club two decades of national and international racing experience, including a win at the Rainforest Cup in Malaysia and a top-20 finish in The Worlds Hardest Half-Iron Man in Mexico.
The first BreakAway Performance Pro Lab is now open at Bay Club San Francisco, located at 150 Greenwich Street, with immediate plans to open more locations at Bay club campuses from Marin County to San Diego. The San Francisco launch was celebrated with a grand opening party and an open house featuring demo training and workshops with BreakAway Performance’s retail partners, including Alchemy Bicycles, RETUL fitting systems, GARMIN, Hammer Nutrition, and ZIPP Speed Weaponry.
