ORLANDO — Warm and sunny Florida weather helped set the stage for the 2005 National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo held April 5-9 in Orlando. More than 2,000 attendees and 128 exhibitors participated in the event.
“Probably the biggest standout was the number of attendees. It was record breaking,” said Carole Marie Hobrock, exposition director of NIRSA.
Highlights included keynote speeches from Dr. Richard Flynn, president of Springfield College, who offered a prescription for leadership success in campus recreation; Bruce Christopher, who took a humorous look at how men and women think, speak and make decisions differently; Theme Night at SeaWorld; and the announcement of NIRSA's new president elect, Maureen McGonagle. The conference also included educational sessions, the Career Opportunities Center and the Honor Award Banquet where Patricia Besner, University of Toledo, became the 2005 Honor Award winner.
