Planet Fitness and its franchisees today announced that the company donated approximately $335,000 to support breast cancer research thanks to a special Mother's Day promotion. For every new member that signed up at participating locations from May 8 through May 15, a $10 donation was made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Since the annual promotion began three years ago, Planet Fitness has donated more than $1.5 million to BCRF.
"The annual Mother's Day promotion is a great way to give back to our local communities," said Chris Rondeau, chief executive officer at Planet Fitness. "So many lives have been touched and affected by this important cause. We're happy to do our part and support the critical research needed to help find prevention and a cure for breast cancer."
"The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is thrilled to accept this donation that will go directly toward investigators whose research projects are unraveling the mysteries of breast cancer to further BCRF's mission of prevention and a cure in our lifetime," said Myra Biblowit, BCRF President. "BCRF-funded researchers are responsible for many advances in breast cancer; one critical achievement in particular is that BCRF-funded research has indicated that there is a positive relationship between exercise, a healthy lifestyle, and breast cancer risk. Partnering with Planet Fitness and its franchisees is a natural synergy and we are extremely grateful for their unwavering support."
In addition to Planet Fitness' partnership with The BCRF, to honor all moms throughout the country on Mother's Day, Planet Fitness hosted a special "Mom Nom" sweepstakes online from May 8 through May 15 to find the Best Moms on the Planet. Ten lucky winners were randomly selected to win a year membership for themselves and a mom of their choice.
