ELLICOTT CITY, MD -- Three clubs took top honors at the Mid-Atlantic Club Management Association (MACMA) annual conference on Aug. 9 in Ellicott City, MD. The three clubs were Annapolis Athletic Club in Annapolis, MD; Merritt Athletic Club in Eldersburg, MD; and SEC Fitness Center in Washington, DC.
Annapolis Athletic Club won a 2007 Award of Excellence for its Tour de Annapolis program, Merritt Athletic Club won for its Get Fit Maryland/Get Fit Kids program, and SEC Fitness Center won for its 5 STARS for FIT program.
MACMA also announced its annual scholarship winners. Four health and fitness professionals received scholarships from the American Council on Exercise, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the National Strength Professional Association and the National Council on Strength and Fitness. Winners included Crystal Champtal, Supreme Sports Club; Serena Pharr, L&T Health and Fitness; Helen Murray, JOHO Fitness Center; and Kimberly Surmann, JFA Fitness Center.
More than 150 attendees from clubs in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Washington, DC also attended the keynote presentation given by Michael Scott Scudder of Fit Biz Connection.
