Life Time Fitness Inc. has appointed Michael J. Gerend as chief operating officer. Effective March 3, 2003, Gerend joined Life Time Fitness from Champion Air, the largest dedicated provider of charter airlift in the airline industry, where he served as president and chief executive officer since 1998. For Life Time Fitness, Gerend will hold responsibility for the company's major operational divisions, including its 29 nationally based sports, fitness and recreation center operations. He will also be responsible for continuing to drive the company's results orientation through effective process engineering. He will report to Bahram Akradi, Life Time Fitness founder, president and CEO.
