Reason No. 8,943 to implement nutrition classes at your health club: 27 percent of all American adults are on a diet, reports the Calorie Control Council. In its recent survey, the council also determined that nearly four in 10 Americans are controlling their weight, without being on a diet, per se. Further, 34 percent were not watching their eating habits at all.
When asked why they had not maintained their ideal weight, the No. 1 response, according to the council, was too little exercise. Other popular answers included: snack too much; eat too many high-fat foods; too often binge on favorite foods; only watch fat, not calories; often overeat at mealtimes; often overeat for emotional reasons; have trouble eating properly at restaurants; and only watch calories, not fat.
