LAS VEGAS — An award ceremony honoring Augie Nieto, chairman of Octane Fitness, raised more than $1 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's ALS Division. Nieto, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or Lou Gerhrig's disease) in March, was the co-founder of Life-Cycle Inc. (now Life Fitness Inc.).

The funds raised will go to an ALS research fund, Augie's Quest…Cure ALS Research Fund, which Nieto started to help others with this deadly disease.

Nieto was honored at the National Fitness Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award reception in Las Vegas last month.
