FORT JACKSON, SC -- In an effort to improve adherence to fitness goals, the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department at Fort Jackson, SC, recently started a personal training program at the Andy’s Fitness Center on post.

Both of the newly hired personal trainers, Terry McIntosh and Chris Siau, previously taught fitness classes at Fort Jackson. While only two trainers were hired initially, more will be brought on board if customer demand warrants it, Pam Greene, a certified trainer and instructor with the MWR department, told The Fort Jackson Leader.

Although many of the initial training clients are family members of soldiers, Greene said soldiers also can benefit from the program. Personal trainers can help soldiers address Army-specific goals, such as improving scores on the physical training test.

In addition to active duty soldiers and their families, military retirees and Department of Defense civilians are eligible to use the on-post fitness centers and can sign up for the program. Five one-hour personal training sessions cost $100, and an initial one-hour consultation is included free of charge.
