Johnson Health Tech Inc. (JHT), the manufacturer of Matrix Fitness and other equipment brands, had a 22 percent increase in domestic sales in the first quarter of 2011 compared to first quarter 2010, the Cottage Grove, WI-based company announced.

JHT, which also manufactures Vision Fitness, AFG, Horizon Fitness and Livestrong Fitness equipment, also announced a 21 percent worldwide sales increase in first quarter 2011 compared to the corresponding period last year.

The company’s international commercial channel, including the Matrix Fitness line of cardio and strength equipment, experienced the most significant growth with a 28 percent increase over first quarter 2010. JHT’s North American retail market, consisting of six brands in the sporting goods/mass market and specialty business segments, had a 25 percent growth over the prior year.

JHT did not release dollar figures on the sales increases, noting it is a private company.

“Through our existing distribution models worldwide and continued success with our retail and commercial product portfolio, we’ve continued in Q1 on a long wave of sales growth across all channels,” Nathan Pyles, president of Johnson Health Tech North America, said in a statement. “Along with a renewed focus on the customer experience and strategic product development, this has led to a very strong beginning to 2011. We look forward to consistent, aggressive growth throughout Q2 and the remainder of the year.”

In February, JHT announced that its commercial segment experienced a 48 percent annual growth in 2010 over 2009.
