"We bought the Icarian strength line in 2004, and demand has nearly doubled since then," says Jim Zahniser, public relations manager for Precor. "We needed to upsize."
Zahniser says Precor chose North Carolina for a number of reasons.
"We'll be manufacturing the commercial strength line not just for the U.S., but for Europe, too, so shipping cost was a big factor," he says. "Greensboro also has a strong business infrastructure and commitment to training employees. Part of the economic development initiative it offered was a $250,000 grant for a local community college to train for jobs at our facility. The total incentives were $1.2 million over a three-year period."
The company plans to add 142 jobs at the plant during the next three years, some of which may come from its California facility, Zahniser says.
