The Big Two-Oh. In the grand scheme of things, 20 years isn’t an impressive age. You’re old enough to vote, but good luck trying to rent a car, young ’un. Chances are you’re still made to listen to “back in my day” stories from wiser, older folks who want to impart to you, the young whippersnapper, on just how many miles they had to trudge through to get to school every morning. Barefoot. And in the snow.
But 20 years is a long time for the fitness industry. Think of the innovations that have taken place in clubs, gyms and health centers across the country—elliptical trainers, advances in computer software, entertainment systems, etc.
The industry as a whole has seen tremendous growth in the past 20 years, and industry experts are expecting much more to come. Experts like the positively ancient IHRSA, which will be hosting its 20th annual International Convention and Trade Show in San Francisco from March 22 to 24. But instead of hearing about the “good old days” at the show, fitness professionals can expect to hear all about what’s in store for the health and fitness industry. And no barefoot walking in the snow is necessary.
IHRSA 2001 promises to be an exciting event this year with its more than 400 exhibitors. In addition to the trade show, IHRSA 2001 offers certification testing and continuing education credits (CECs). Conference attendees can take part in full-day workshops as well as free morning workout sessions and classes taught by program creators and VIPs.
This year’s keynote speakers are Tom Peters (Thursday, 8:15 a.m.), the best-selling author of In Search of Excellence, and Herman Cain (Satur-day, 9 a.m.), chairman of Godfather’s Pizza Inc. and founding director and former CEO of RetailDNA.
Besides the trade show and conference, IHRSA will host the 2nd annual IHRSA/ACE Fitness Business Conference, the 2nd annual IHRSA/ISPA Spa Business Conference, and the first-ever IHRSA Corporate Business Conference.
There’s still time to register for IHRSA 2001. Call (800) 228-4772 or fax (617) 737-3323 for more information. Or visit www.ihrsa.org/meetings.
