Equinox, New York, announced plans to open a new club in Toronto, marking the company’s first foray into Canada.

The 40,000-square-foot club will be in the heart of Toronto’s financial district at Commerce Court, owned by British Columbia Investment Management Corp. The club is expected to open this winter.

“Toronto’s luxury hotel, retail, restaurant and condominium development is booming, making this an ideal time to introduce our lifestyle brand to this great city,” Jeff Weinhaus, executive vice president of development for Equinox, said in a statement. “We continue to look for additional locations in Toronto to complement our corporate flagship location.”

The Toronto club will be the second international club for Equinox, which is scheduled to open a new club in London this fall.

Equinox operates 56 upscale, full-service clubs in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Boston, Dallas and Washington, DC. Last year, Equinox acquired the remaining four The Sports Club/LA clubs from The Sports Club Co.

Equinox also operates the high-volume, low-price club Blink Fitness as well as Pure Yoga and SoulCycle.
