Anna Henson, an employee of a Charter Fitness club in Bloomington, IL, helped save the life of a member who went into cardiac arrest at the club last month.

Henson saw the member pass out on a bench and fall to the floor on July 8. She immediately called 911, retrieved the club’s automatic external defibrillator (AED) and began administering CPR before paramedics arrived at the club. The member recovered in a nearby hospital.

“We are trained at Charter Fitness to respond to emergencies,” Henson said in a statement. “I am glad that I could help and that he is OK.”

Charter Fitness, Orland Park, IL, says it equips every club with an AED.

“We take the health and well-being of Charter Fitness’ members very seriously and are very proud of Anna Henson’s life-saving efforts,” Dan Collins, director of sales for Charter Fitness, said in a statement.

The member returned to the Charter Fitness club a week after the incident and presented Henson with flowers and gifts.
