NEWTON, PA — The Newtown Athletic Club's charitable work not only helped individuals in Newtown, PA, where the club is located, but it also led to the club receiving an award from a local group.
The club received the 2004 Economic Development Award from the Economic Development Committee of the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce. The award is given to an individual, business or non-profit agency that has contributed to the economic well being of the area in a significant way.
The group selected the club because it has given $1 million in goods, services and cash annually; it had employed thousands of individuals over 26 years; it provides fitness and recreation programs for adults and children; it partners with the township parks and rec department to offer programs to the community; and it maintains an advertising program for local businesses to market to its 10,000 club members. The club also supports community events and establishments and devotes time to local business and charitable groups.
Recently, the club donated $50,000 to Council Rock High School North and South for the academic year 2004-2005. The money, along with $25,000 from the Vaughn Hebron Transcend Sports Training Systems Complex, will provide for fitness training to the athletic teams at the two schools.
