TUCSON, Ariz. -- ClubCorp and the Muscular Dystrophy Association are hitting the links for the seventh annual ClubCorp Charity Classic, ClubCorp’s major annual philanthropic open-house event, to benefit MDA's fast-track ALS research initiative Augie's Quest.
From May through the end of 2013, more than 125 golf and country clubs around the country are opening their courses and dining rooms to an estimated 14,000 members, as well as guests and patrons for tournaments, dining events, auctions and social extravaganzas.
The Charity Classic is believed to be the world’s largest multisite charity golf and dining event with clubs participating from coast to coast to benefit MDA’s Augie's Quest, an aggressive, cure-driven effort singularly focused on finding treatments and cures for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Augie's Quest is named for philanthropist and fitness industry pioneer Augie Nieto who has been fighting ALS since his diagnosis in 2005. Nieto is co-founder and former president of Life Fitness of Chicago, and chairman of Octane Fitness. To date, Augie’s Quest has raised nearly $37 million for ALS research.

Since it began in 2007, the ClubCorp Charity Classic has raised more than $10 million benefiting numerous charities, including MDA’s Augie's Quest. In 2012, the event raised a record-breaking $2.07 million nationwide.

In Addition to Augie's Quest, the 2013 ClubCorp Charity Classic will benefit ClubCorp’s Employee Partners Care Foundation (E.P.C.F.) and more than 100 local nonprofit groups selected individually by participating clubs.

The Employee Partners Care Foundation (epcarefoundation.com) was established by ClubCorp to help employees and their families in need of financial assistance in times of crisis. Future plans include incorporating a scholarship component into the fund in order to provide scholarships for Employee Partners or their children and grandchildren. Funds for the Employee Partners Care Foundation come from Employee Partner donations, as well as private donations.
