We've already received several entries for our Best of the Best contest—and the deadline is still three weeks away. Many of the entries look good—but I bet you have a program that is just as good or, dare I say, maybe even better. But what is the secret to winning?
Details. Yes, for the judges (who are all longtime fitness facility operators or industry consultants), the most important element in judging is having enough details to truly and accurately judge your program. That means making sure that you provide the budget and marketing plan for the programs you submit. And it means reporting the results of the program—how many people participated, how many joined because of the program, what their feedback was, how you followed up with them, etc. If you did not do these things, then it will be difficult for the judges to give a full opinion about the effectiveness of the program.
The second biggest element to winning is uniqueness. You want to submit a program that goes above and beyond what others are doing. Tell the judges how your program is different from everyone else's. How did you develop this idea to begin with? How have you changed it?
This industry is full of creative people who are working hard to implement creative programs that draw more people into a healthy lifestyle through your facility—whether they are commercial clubs, YMCAs, Jewish Community Centers, parks and rec facilities, university rec centers, corporate fitness facilities, medical-based facilities or others. We want all the fitness facility operators who read our publication to hear about those great programs. In an industry with a common goal of helping others, good ideas are meant to be shared and adopted by others.
The winning programs receive accolades that include being featured in the magazine and receiving a certificate of honor at the Club Industry conference and trade show Oct. 12 in Las Vegas. Plus, three people from the winning facilities will get free admission to the conference and trade show.
