The YMCA of Middle Tennessee has named Dan Dummermuth as its new president and CEO. The Y's board of directors announced the hiring on Monday.
Dummermuth returns to the Nashville, TN-based Y after serving as a group vice president at the Y's Franklin, TN, branch from 1997 to 2001. He most recently served as president and CEO of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, Colorado Springs, CO.
Dummermuth began his Y career at the Valley of the Sun YMCA, Phoenix, and later served as one of its group vice presidents. In 2003, he was named senior vice president and COO of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region and became its president and CEO in 2010.
"Every day, Ys across the country have a chance to create real and lasting change, and I'm honored to again be part of that work in Middle Tennessee," Dummermuth said in a statement. "I am committed to maintaining our relevancy in addressing the changing needs of the community while never straying away from our mission. We will also continue our commitment to partnering with other organizations to make a positive impact and enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in our community."
Dummermuth replaces former CEO John Mark "Journey" Johnson, who retired last December after a 35-year Y career. Dummermuth's first day will be March 3.
The YMCA of Middle Tennessee consists of 20 family wellness centers, six community outreach centers and one of the largest day- and resident-camp facilities in the region, according to the Y.
Late last year, the Y closed three centers, according to reports. The Y said at the time the closures will save $740,000 annually.
Earlier this month, a plane crash near the Bellevue (TN) Family YMCA killed all four people aboard. Debris from the crash landed in the Y's parking lot, but no one on the ground or at the Y was injured. The Y, which reopened four days later, is planning a memorial service in the coming weeks to honor the victims.
