RACINE, WI -- A state-of-the-art 70,000-square-foot YMCA will be built in Racine, WI, thanks to a $6 million gift from Diversey Inc., a manufacturer of cleaning and hygiene products based there.
The Johnson family, also from Racine and a majority shareholder in Diversey, has pledged an additional $250,000 toward the construction, according to a company statement. The balance needed to build the anticipated $12 million facility will come from community fundraising and debt.
Along with two swimming pools, a wellness center, gymnasium, running track and other fitness amenities, the new Y will feature a child care center developed to meet National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011 and will be in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.
