WAUSAU, WI -- A former judge in Marathon County, WI, is suing the Woodson YMCA, saying her stroke was caused by the negligence of one of the Y’s personal trainers.

The lawsuit claims that Dorothy Bain, who resigned from the judicial bench in 2008, suffered a stroke with life-long consequences, sustained multiple injuries, suffered great pain of body and mind, incurred medical and hospital expenses, and lost wages as a result of negligence on the part of the Y and Melissa Matteson, Bain’s personal trainer at the time.

Bain suffered a stroke in late 2006, then resigned in August 2008, according to The Wausau (WI) Daily Herald.

Tom Jackson, executive director of the YMCA, told the Herald that the staff is adequately trained and that there was no negligence on the Y’s part.

Bain filed suit on Oct. 19 and is asking for unspecified damages. Court documents for the lawsuit did not offer an explanation or evidence supporting Bain’s claim, the newspaper noted.
