Bonita Springs YMCA Reopens under New Owners

The Bonita Springs YMCA reopened last Saturday, almost a year after its controversial closing. The YMCA of the Palms, Naples, FL, which managed the branch, closed the facility due to financial hardship in May 2011.

The YMCA of the Palms transferred ownership of the Bonita Springs YMCA to the South County YMCA, Venice, FL. Ken Modzelewski, CEO of the South County YMCA, reopened the Bonita Springs YMCA under its management. The South County Y has 25,000 members.

"This is the culmination of literally hundreds of hours of tireless effort from dedicated staff in both YMCAs, as well as board members, volunteers and community leaders, who have all been passionately dedicated to keeping the Y mission alive in Bonita Springs," YMCA of the Palms stated on its website. "We look forward to continuing our work together to ensure an ever-stronger Y presence throughout Southwest Florida."
