LINCOLN, NE -- The new Fallbrook YMCA in Lincoln, NE, is hosting a public open house on Sunday before its official grand opening on Sept. 1. It is the first Y facility in Nebraska built in conjunction with a new middle school, a partnership that was developed to share common spaces and minimize costs for both organizations.
The 50,000-square-foot YMCA shares a 31-acre site with a 166,365-square-foot middle school. The collaboration is part of a project between Lincoln Public Schools, the Lincoln YMCA and Lincoln Parks & Recreation, as well as private foundations and businesses.
The Y and middle school share gyms, exercise and locker rooms, a health center, spaces for life management and art classes, playing fields, and parking lots. The location also includes a neighborhood bike and walking trail.
“This facility was vision that was greatly supported by YMCA officials, school officials and community leaders. It will serve Lincoln and the many families for years to come,” Barbara Bettin, president and CEO of the Lincoln YMCA, said in a statement.
In addition to traditional Y activities, the new facility will host an extensive after-school program, family education programs, sports activities, classes and community events. The Y itself features two pools, three large gymnasiums, family programming, a child care center and areas for wellness programs.
