CLEVELAND, OH -- The Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland broke ground on a $15 million expansion and renovation last Friday.
The 20-month project includes a 7,000-square-foot addition to the existing building that will be used for a new fitness center. The fitness facility will include an expanded indoor track, four group exercise rooms, new locker rooms and a larger gym. In addition, the JCC is renovating its indoor pool, which will include two whirlpools, and upgrading its racquetball, basketball and tennis courts.
The Mandel Foundation contributed $13.5 million toward the project. The center will raise the remaining $1.5 million through grants and individual donations, Debra Posner, a spokeswoman for the Jewish Community Center, told local media.
The JCC plans to remain open throughout the construction project.
