YMCAs Get Interactive on Healthy Kids Day

WASHINGTON, DC -- On Saturday, an estimated 550,000 children and families visited nearly 1,700 YMCAs nationwide for the 16th Annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day, the nation’s largest health day for children. In preparation for the event, Nintendo donated 100 Wii party packs to YMCA chapters nationally.

The YMCA chapters used the video game system to help bridge the gap between parents and their kids through their Adventure Guides programs, which foster lifelong relationships between parents and children. The children played games such as Wii Sports, a collection of baseball, golf, tennis, boxing and bowling. The system’s motion-sensitive controller gets people off the couch and moving.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is part of YMCA Activate America®, a nationwide initiative designed to help children and adults adopt and sustain a healthy lifestyle.
