Worldwide Day of Play Focuses on Challenge

NATIONWIDE -- This year’s Worldwide Day of Play (WWDOP) on Sept. 30, focused on celebrating the health successes of kids who have taken the Let's Just Play Go Healthy Challenge, a partnership between Nickelodeon and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Hundreds of thousands of children from nine countries celebrated the day by participating in community events that encouraged kids to "Go Healthy." Families across the nation gathered in parks, playgrounds, community centers and schools to celebrate their pledge to be healthy.

To encourage activity, cable television station Nickelodeon stopped broadcasting for three hours on the afternoon of WWDOP to get the message out to kids and families to get up, get out and go play. That evening, the channel aired, “Let's Just Play Go Healthy Challenge Celebration,” the finale of a six month on-air mini-series following four real life children on their quests to make healthy changes in their lives, their families' habits and their communities.
