WASHINGTON, DC -- Air Force and Navy Fitness may be adding new fitness centers to their ranks. A new fitness center at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina and Naval Air Station Kingsville (TX) were recently added by House appropriators to President Bush’s fiscal 2009 military construction request.
The new The newcenters are part of additions aimed at improving the quality of life for service members and their families. The additions to the military construction and Department of Veterans Affairs appropriations bill were approved unanimously by the House Appropriations Committee on June 24, according to the Air Force Times.
The bill, which will include $24.8 billion for military construction, will now go to the full House for consideration. The bill includes $400 million more than the original White House request.
The committee also approved 11 child development and youth activity centers requested by the Defense Department, noting the increased need for child care on military bases. Other projects added included housing, changes to travel reimbursement rates and increases in VA health care funding.
