McLEAN, VA -- Sport & Health Clubs recently acquired a former World Gym in Gainesville, VA. The McLean, VA-based company is continuing its growth in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
“We have been exploring the Gainesville submarket throughout the last year in search of an opportunity to fill in our footprint,” Sport & Health President and COO Mark Fisher said in a statement. “With clubs in Woodbridge, Dale City, Stafford and Fredericksburg (VA), operating in the Gainesville area makes perfect sense to complete our service area.”
The 15,000-square-foot-club—the 24th in the Sport & Health stable— includes cardiovascular conditioning equipment, circuit strength training, free weights, group exercise studios, indoor cycling and a smoothie bar, in addition to other health and fitness offerings. The club will undergo renovations to incorporate the Sport & Health brand.
In July, Sport & Health received $25 million in financing from Pittsburgh-based PNC Mezzanine Capital and Wynnewood, PA-based CMS Mezzanine Fund. The company plans to open at least three new clubs each year for the next five years.
“Sport & Health is committed to bringing our wealth of fitness programming to neighborhoods throughout the Washington metro area that are too often underserved,” Jonathan Adler, Sport & Health’s CEO, said in the statement. “This move into Gainesville falls precisely in line with our strategic plan.”
