NAPERVILLE, IL -- The Fry Family YMCA in Naperville, IL, is going down in the “Guinness Book of World Records.” On May 12, at the Y, George Hood set a new world record by pedaling 178 hours on a stationary bike. In the process, he helped raise $30,000 for the facility’s annual fundraising campaign.
Hood used an indoor cycling bike during the eight-day fundraiser.
This was not Hood’s first world record. In July 2007, George set a world record by peddling on a stationary bike for 111 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds.
The special event raised funds for the Y’s Strong Kids campaign, an annual fundraiser that provides fee assistance for children and families. In 2007, the Heritage YMCA Group in Naperville, IL, the umbrella organization for the Fry Family Y, raised $470,000. That money helped more than 14,000 children and families with support for Y programs and services. This year, management at the Y hopes to raise more than $500,000.
