BOULDER, CO — It may not be a total news flash that active Americans are more likely to be members of a health club than the average population — you already knew that. But what may surprise you is how much more likely they are to walk in your doors.

In fact, a recent survey by Leisure Trends found that active Americans belong to health clubs at a 262 percent greater rate than that of the average population. A survey of Leisure Trends' Most Active Americans Panel (which is a database of more than 200,000 Americans who Leisure Trends have determined are the most active and affluent based on their income level and activities that they participate in) found that 39.1 percent of this active group belongs to a health club. In contrast, the average American population yields only a 14.9 percent membership number.
