Columbia Association's Supreme Sports Club in Owen Brown, MD has renovated and opened with upgraded athletic equipment, new exterior and interior paint, a remodeled lobby, new landscaping, new lighting and extended hours.

The Spa Association (SPAA) has created Spa Secure, an international licensing system. Currently spas and salons are regulated by state licensing systems, each with a unique set of regulations. To eliminate confusion and raise the industry standard, Spa Secure said it has adopted the strictest standards from each state, elevated each standard to the next level and then created a grading system for all spas, resorts, salons, wellness centers and medical spas.

Encore Fitness, a provider of cardiovascular workout facilities, recently announced it has received its first institutional round of financing from Funk Ventures Capital Partners, the venture capital arm of Los Angeles-based private equity firm Funk Ventures. The investment was announced by Encore Fitness CEO and co-founder Jennifer Benson. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

Colarossi Spa & Health Club Consulting & Management has signed an agreement giving Al Qudra General Trading LLC the right to license the Colarossi name for all spas in the United Arab Emirates. Colarossi Spa & Health Club Consulting & Management will oversee all the spa-related duties of running the facilities, including spa procedures, operations manuals, programming and guest amenities.

MRV Industries, LLC has acquired the rights to produce the Jacobs Ladder total body exerciser. Nichols Erecting Inc. dba Jacobs Ladder had produced Jacobs Ladder starting in 1999. MRV Industries LLC has purchased the patent and the assets of the company for an undisclosed amount. Jacobs Ladder is a patented climbing machine with ladder-type rungs on a non-motorized continuous treadmill. The device was originally developed as an alternative to running, to take the stress off the back and to work the upper body.

Bally Total Fitness has partnered with the Miami Dolphins as the “Official Fitness Center of the Dolphins.” Bally Total Fitness will be on hand at training sessions, public scrimmages and pre-season games. Additionally, Bally will have a presence in Sportstown during all Dolphins home games played at Pro Player Stadium. The partnership will include several marketing activities including providing season ticket holders with special benefits at Bally Total Fitness locations, exit sampling at Pro Player Stadium and the use of the Dolphins name and logo in Bally Total Fitness commercials.
