Bill McBride was promoted to chief operating officer of Club One Inc. He was most recently the vice president of commercial clubs at the company. McBride will oversee the company's operational standards and build brand equity with a specific focus on member relations. McBride will also try to bring greater alignment to the company's three channels of service — commercial clubs, community centers, and worksite health and fitness.

The U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission is suing Bally Total Fitness for religious discrimination for allegedly asking a job candidate at a Fresno, CA, Bally club about his religion. The lawsuit seeks damages up to $300,000 and a change in Bally's hiring practices.

Life Fitness unveiled its $3.7-million renovated research and development lab at its Franklin Park, IL, facility. The 38,000-square-foot lab includes space and equipment dedicated to biomechanical, electromagnetic, environmental and mechanical research and development. The lab was designed and engineered by A. Epstein and Sons International Inc. and Interior Space International, Epstein's in-house interior design subsidiary.
