PLANO, TX – Life Time Fitness centers in the Dallas area are facing more scrutiny after thefts were reported at two locations.

On Aug. 8, three men at the Life Time Fitness in Plano, TX, had their Rolex watches stolen from their lockers. The total amount of property was more than $32,000, according to The Plano Star Courier. That same day, another theft took place at the Colleyville, TX, Life Time Fitness center.

The Plano Police Department declined to comment on whether any of their suspects included Life Time Fitness employees, although one of the burglary victims says he was told previous thefts involved an employee.

Jason Thunstrom, corporate communications director for Life Time Fitness, declined to comment on the thefts to the newspaper, but released a statement indicating that extra security measures had been taken at the Plano location to prevent further theft.

On Aug. 1, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott cited Life Time Fitness, Eden Prairie, MN, for unlawfully dumping identifying information of its members and its employees in easily accessible trash bins outside several Life Time Fitness centers in Texas. More than 100 records with names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and credit and debit card information were found. The Plano and Colleyville locations were among those cited.

The attorney general also cited Life Time Fitness with violations of Chapter 35 of the Business and Commerce Code, which requires businesses to develop retention and disposal procedures for their clients’ personal information. Life Time Fitness also faces unrelated charges that it violated the Health Spa Act by operating several Texas locations without being registered with the Texas Secretary of State.
