The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), the nation’s premier certification body for fitness professionals, today announced Sally Yagan, a seasoned education leader, as the new vice president of product strategy.

Yagan brings more than 20 years’ experience in product development, management and education to her position. In her role at NASM, she oversees the strategic direction and expansion of certifications and specialties, including NASM’s wellness focus, which will debut with new courses beginning late 2014. She is also responsible for managing the transition of existing educational content into updated formats, incorporating the newest technologies and mobile-friendly options.

“Sally joins our team with a proven track record of success from leading education and health-focused organizations. She shares our vision to expand NASM’s advanced learning options and define industry standards, providing our Certified Personal Trainers with the highest level of education,” said Andrew Wyant, president of NASM.

Prior to joining NASM, Yagan was vice president of product management services at Pearson Education, where she focused on transforming the print-based publisher to a digital learning organization. She was also previously the editorial director for the business and economics division at Pearson, the editorial director of AMELT at Oxford University Press, and editor-in-chief of the Prentice Hall mathematics division. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Yagan started her career in sales at Procter & Gamble.

“I have always been passionate about learning and making a positive impact on those around me, and NASM affords me to opportunity to do both,” Yagan said. “I look forward to working with our Certified Personal Trainers to make sure we are providing them with the tools necessary to achieve their business success.”
