TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, FL -- Tyndall Air Force Base, FL, broke ground on Dec. 11 for a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient fitness center.

The 75,000-square-foot ‘Fit to Fight’ facility, which is slated for completion in 2010, will feature a variety of exercise machines and workout areas.

The Tyndall Fitness Center is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project. Upon completion, the new fitness center will achieve gold LEED certification, which sets high standards in five categories of facility development: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

“This building will be a spectacle of beauty, functionality, and energy efficiency,” says Ann Garner, 325th Civil Engineer Squadron chief of engineering. “This building will serve to educate the base population on the importance of energy conservation and sustainable development.”

The groundbreaking ceremony featured opening remarks from Brig. Gen. Darryl Roberson, the 325th Fighter Wing commander, and recognition of key personnel involved in the facility’s development.
