NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Air Combat Command (ACC), a major command of the U.S. Air Force, presented its Facility Design Honor Award to architecture, planning, engineering and interior design firm Leo A. Daly at the ACC Design Awards Luncheon on Feb. 28, held at the Marriott Hotel City Center in Newport News, VA. The award recognizes the firm’s work on the ADAL Fitness Center Project at Minot Air Force Base in Ward County, ND.

The ADAL Fitness Center includes a 43,000-square-foot addition with space for group exercise, a gymnasium, a second-level running track, locker rooms and a new lobby/entry. The center, which cost approximately $9 million, also includes 41,000 square feet for fitness workouts, racquetball courts, multiple basketball gymnasiums, a health and wellness center, and a lap pool. The facility includes site development, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, communications, security, force protection and parking improvements as well as a new outdoor running track.

Judged by a panel of architects, interior designers and planners, the ACC awards recognize projects that have an excellent overall design and incorporate innovation, quality, and efficiency concepts. The ACC also forwarded the project to compete in the 2007 Air Force Design Awards.
