NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Upgrades were unveiled last week to the Huntington Hall barracks in Newport News, VA, which house sailors from the USS Theodore Roosevelt and staff from Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding.
In addition to upgraded boarding rooms, improvements include a new workout center, a renovated gym floor and a resurfaced track and playing field.
Sailors participated in a ceremonial one-mile run at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to break in the new track.
The fitness center is being called “Generation Rec” and contains a gym, computers with Internet access, video game systems, large-screen movie theaters, pool tables and dart boards.
The $5 million facelift to the 80-year-old Huntington Hall began in January 2008. The building was converted from a high school into Navy housing in 1982.
More than 230 sailors now live in Huntington Hall, which is located within walking distance of the Northrop Grumman shipyard.
