Officials with Midtown Athletic Club in Weston have announced the return and appointment of Luis Brest, one of Florida’s most revered tennis coaches, as director of the club’s High Performance Junior Tennis Program. Luis had served as Midtown’s Junior Tennis Director from 2004-2011.

His return on January 20 promises to revitalize one of South Florida’s preeminent junior training programs, and will elevate Midtown to prestigious status for juniors traveling from the country’s southeast region to train with Luis and his professional staff.

“We are fortunate to have Luis back. His work developing junior tennis players into world-class talent is well regarded throughout North America and beyond,” said Midtown Tennis Director Laurent Leclerc.

Named ‘Argentinean Coach of the Year’ by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) in 1997, Luis served as National Development Coach for the Argentinean Tennis Association and Captain of the National Boys 12’s Team from 1998-2002.

Working in the tennis industry for the past 30 years, Luis most recently directed programming at the Sunrise Tennis Academy in nearby Sunrise, Florida. While there, he developed the number of competitive junior players from 20 to 120 and, in 2013, assisted eight high school players in securing collegiate tennis scholarships.

As Director of Midtown Weston’s High Performance Junior Tennis Program, Luis’ responsibilities will include building the finest team of coaches, and providing juniors with the best skill sets and tools, both physically and mentally, in order to be successful competitive players.

He will also play an integral role in working with players and their parents to provide insight on development of these young athletes, along with preparing them mentally and physically for high school play and college scholarship acquisition.

Additional responsibilities will include attracting high-level junior tennis tournaments to Midtown and to execute all member requests in a timely and professional manner.

“Luis will surround himself with a world-class staff of professionals to build South Florida’s best junior tennis program,” said Leclerc. “His goal is to make Midtown’s program competitive for all ages and levels—from young children, to the International Tennis Federation junior circuit, and through college.”

“We will provide a tremendous amount of focus and attention to current Midtown members and hopefully attract new competitive players from inside and outside the U.S.,” said Brest.

Awarded Florida Coach of the Year by the PTR in 2003, Brest is a certified PTR Professional, PTR Tester and a USTA High Performance Coach.
