Equipment manufacturers reported sales increases and decreases in second quarter earnings.
The fitness segment of Brunswick Corp., Lake Forest, IL, which is comprised of Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment, had sales of $143.3 million, up 1 percent from $141.6 million in the second quarter of 2011. U.S. sales in the fitness segment increased by 11 percent, and sales in Europe decreased by 14 percent.
Cybex International Inc., Medway, MA, had a 5 percent decrease in second quarter 2012 net sales compared to the same period last year. Net sales were $30.8 million compared to $32.6 million for the corresponding 2011 period. For second quarter 2012, Cybex reported a net loss of $1.2 million compared to a net loss of $0.6 million for the corresponding 2011 period.
Net sales for Precor, Woodinville, WA, increased 11 percent in local currencies in second quarter 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. Amer Sports, the Helsinki, Finlandbased parent company of Precor, reported net sales for its fitness segment was EUR56.4 million (about $70 million) in second quarter 2012 compared to EUR45.9 million (about $57 million) in second quarter 2011.
Johnson Health Tech (JHT), Cottage Grove, WI, the parent company of Matrix, Vision, AFG and Horizon, reported figures for the first six months of 2012 rather than for the second quarter. Global sales for its retail and commercial brands increased by 14 percent while global sales for Matrix increased by 21.1 percent and North America sales for Matrix increased by 26.5 percent. JHT does not report actual revenue figures.
