Health and fitness professionals in the spotlight

* Life Fitness has named Kevin S. Grodzki president. Founder and former president Augie Nieto has become chairman. Formerly the vice president of Crompton Corp.'s $500 million Polymer Additives company, Grodzki has assumed the worldwide day-to-day operations of the business for both the commercial and consumer divisions.

* The Roanoke Athletic Club, an affiliate of Carilion Health System in Virginia, has promoted five employees to management positions. Marilyn Montano has been named the director of operations. Joe Hoff has been promoted to the director of wellness services. Jennifer Roth, a former manager in training at Roanoke, will serve as director of operations for the new Carilion-affiliated Botetourt Athletic Club. Stephen Ragone has been promoted to building superintendent. And Ashley Wiley has been named the manager of group exercise.

* Bill Crawford, owner of Basic Training of Scottsdale, Ariz., has announced that he is now available online for e-mail consultations to fitness-related questions-free of charge. The service is open to anyone who e-mails a question, including nonmembers.

* Club One, of San Francisco, has hired Eric M. Markell as vice president and chief financial officer. With more than 10 years of finance and organizational development experience, he will be responsible for setting the overall financial strength and direction of the company.
